Harbor Island Yacht Club is Nashville's premier sailing club, with a focus on competitive racing.  It is located at 300 Harbor Dr, Old Hickory, TN, and is situated on scenic Old Hickory Lake (part of the Cumberland River waterway), just northeast of Nashville in Wilson County, Tennessee.  HIYC was formed in 1961 by a small group of sailing enthusiasts in Nashville; and the club has grown steadily with a membership of over 200 families including full active, junior, and associate members.  HIYC's club house overlooks our beautiful harbor which has slips for 80 boats on four docks, plus an additional 40 moorings.  Dinghy storage and dry dock spaces are also available to members.

We are an all volunteer club.  In this way, we keep membership costs down, while fostering a sense of community and personal investment in the club.  HIYC also hosts several social events throughout the year.  The purpose of our club is to promote sailing in all its branches; to help promote a code of ethics and safety for the waterways; to foster growth in seamanship through instruction and competitive racing; to form a social and activity nucleus for individuals and their families interested in yachting; to develop an active relationship with other sailing organizations; and to foster the Corinthian spirit of good fellowship.

HIYC has several racing fleets including J-22s, Y-Flyers, Vanguard 15s, Lightnings, Lasers, Optimist dinghies, and a large performance handicap race fleet (PHRF) for cruising boats.  We host 15 regattas annually, as well as a Winter series.  HIYC is also the home of the Vanderbilt Collegiate Sailing Team, which races Flying Juniors competitively in the Intercollegiate circuit, and their J-24 in HIYC's PHRF Regattas.

We also provide several youth activities which are open to the public.  Each June, HIYC sponsors a 4-week sailing camp, with four one-week sessions.  This camp was started in 1989.  Additionally, HIYC is home to Sea Scout Ship 851.  The scout group is active year-round, and has been since its chartering in 1993.  More information on both of these activities are available in the Youth section.
