Notice Board
Description: The purpose of this course is to ensure club members who are interested in performing Race Committee tasks for all regattas at HIYC are well informed of the requirements outlined in the current quadrant of the Racing Rules of Sailing, the best practices suggested by US Sailing, and are familiar with the tools and equipment available to them at HIYC. The first part of the class will condense applicable knowledge from US Sailing’s Basic Race Management course into three approximately 20 minute presentations followed by Q&A and discussion. The second part of the class will familiarize participants with HIYC’s web based registration and scoring system. The third part of the class will cover HIYC’s racing equipment including: flags, signaling equipment, boats, marks, radios, maps, and course diagrams. There will be a break for lunch between sections two and three (~10:00AM-12:00PM, Lunch, 12:30PM-1:15PM) Time and weather permitting, we will get participants "checked out" on Bob n' Jack and the Whaler following the class.
Please download Join the Race Committee Team, Basic Race Management handbook, and 2021-24 RRS for review prior to the class. US Sailing also has a great RRS app that is easy to use on a tablet or phone available HERE.
